Clemson University Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic Diagnostician / Lab Technician

The Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic (PPDC) at Clemson University's Department of Plant Industry seeks to hire a full-time Lab Technician /  Diagnostician to perform duties such as conducting plant diagnosis, providing management recommendations to PPDC's clients, assisting in the operation and maintenance of PPDC, and participating in training, outreach, and Extension activities. 

PPCDL/Beltsville Workshops - 2023 schedule and information posted

We are pleased to announce the 2023 PPCDL-Advanced Diagnostic Workshops hosted by the Scientists of the Plant Pathogen Confirmatory Diagnostic Laboratory (PPCDL) in Laurel, Maryland.

After a 2-year pause, we have planned for the return of in-person workshops. The planning team has developed a schedule that offers a wide variety of topics and delivery methods…nine topics in all…and both in-person and virtual workshops.

PPCDL/Beltsville - Citrus Canker Workshop

The citrus canker molecular detection workshop is being offered in person for the first time in 2023. The workshop will have lecture and hands-on components. The lectures will cover the disease characteristics and an overview of citrus canker diagnostic testing at the USDA-APHIS-PPQ S&T Plant Pathogen Confirmatory Diagnostics Laboratory (PPCDL).

PPCDL/Beltsville - Phytophthora 101 Workshop

  • Length of time: 3 days per session - in-person

The Phytophthora 101 Workshop is a 3-day workshop that has lectures and hands-on components. The lectures include a review of Phytophthora ramorum, DNA extraction, the real-time PCR protocols using P. ramorum (ITS and Elicitin) and Phytophthora kernoviae (ITS1 and ITS2) as the targets, and interpretation of results.

The Phytoplasmas Molecular Detection Workshop is a 2-day workshop that has lectures and hands-on components. The lectures include an introduction to phytoplasmas, their taxonomy and the disease symptoms associated with some of these bacterial pathogens of interest to APHIS PPQ.
